As a long-time Sex and the City fan, I feel compelled to post some of Carrie’s quintessential wisdom. All kidding aside, her advice applies to work in general, as well as finding the perfect boss. And so many other parts of our lives.
While I admit not every fictional celebrity has advice that will help our careers, I really like these words of wisdom from Carrie Bradshaw! Not only does she know shoes, but she really gets one of the most basic laws of workplace survival:
“I admit it’s tempting to wish for the perfect boss, or the perfect parent or the perfect outfit, but maybe the best any of us can do is not quit, play the hand we’ve been given and accessorize the outfit we’ve got.”
Amen sister!
Why can’t I find right boss or job NOW!
Sometimes the perfect job or perfect boss just doesn’t come our way for oh so many reasons. Maybe it will one day. Or maybe something will always be missing … especially if we look for perfection.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t make things better for yourself. So if that’s the case, sometimes our best bet is simply to dig in and make the most of what we have. So often, a little extra effort on our part can go a long way.
And that might include accessorizing our cubicle, creating our own niche, finding ways to take on or learn about new things we actually enjoy, or just learning to enjoy our days the best we can. (And also making the most of our time away from work.)
Putting the power into our own hands
There’s almost always at least a little something we can do to change how we feel about our jobs.

In some cases, we can actually find ways to make things a lot better for ourselves. Other times, it’s those small changes we ourselves can control — even if it’s as simple as giving ourselves a break by taking a day off from focusing on our not so perfect boss. 🙂
Thanks for the inspiration, Carrie!

Hahahaha! Hi Mr. X! Nice to see you.
Sigh. I know Sex and the City isn’t for everyone. Actually, I’m not even sure I want to see the movie. I love the show so much and it had one of the best last episodes ever (am I prejudiced?)…guess I’m a little afraid the movie will be a letdown.
But then again…speaking of how we frame the way we look at things…maybe I’ll just think of it as seeing old friends. Nothing can stay the same, but always nice to see old friends – and new ones. 😉

Very interesting read. I totally agree with everything above…smell the roses, look at what’s good around you instead of how everything “sucks”.
p.s.
I still will NOT go watch Sex and the City movie with my significant other. No way Jose! I’d rather go to work 😉
